INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE, ALIEN FUI DESIGN
This was such a dream come true to work on! At the time, in 2015 Just a few months earlier I was doing web development, and suddenly I was tasked with designing the holographic user interfaces for an alien species!
The final look really came together the weekend after David Bowie passed away. I distinctly remember listening to his entire discography and singing along loudly (as my wife laughed at me) churning out dozens of little animated gak elements and arranging them into compositions in After Effects.
Designs include elements from Twisted Media team members Tom Slattery and Clark Stanton.
In addition to UI for the primary aliens in the film, I was also tasked with developing a look for the other alien species in the film, from their point of view. How was I to know this would not be the last time my graphics would share the frame with Brent Spiner!
